Tina Folsom is a New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author. Much More Than Expected

As a woman, M/M romance has never been my forte. I won't say that this is the first time I have read it, because occasionally it does come up in series that I follow and as an avid reader of the Scanguard Vampire series, there was no way I was passing up this book. I have been rooting for Thomas to have his HEA since we first met him in the first book. So, needless to say, I was anxiously awaiting this latest installment of Tina Folsoms work. This book exceeds every expectation I had for it.

The romance between Thomas and Eddie is fierce, raw and brilliantly written. The connection between these two characters was so well written that I found it some of the hottest erotica that I've read in quite a while. As someone who has always been a fan of M/F love stories, it is actually difficult for me to admit how much I truly enjoyed the journey that Thomas and Eddie has to traverse to find their happily ever after.

Honestly, the only bad aspect of this story is that it ended. This is a story that every Scanguard Vampire Series fan needs to add to their collection. Don't worry, even if you're not into M/M romance and are hesitant to pick this up, don't be. Because of how brilliantly it is written, you don't spend the whole time thinking this is just M/M, you think this is two people who love each other. As the title says, it was much more than I expected.

Well done, Ms. Folsom! As expected, another wonderful entry in the Scanguards Vampires series. As a fan from the beginning, I'd always hoped for a HEA for Thomas. I ,however, feared that Thomas's story would suffer the same "fade to black" syndrome so many authors suffer from when writing their first M/M romance. Or worse, she would make a gay character suddenly discover he was really straight after all. I should have known better... Ms. Folsom stayed true to her characters and her style by keeping Thomas as he always has been and giving us the same sizzling sex scenes as she has with the other vampires in the series.

***SPOILERS***
The Eddie /Thomas romance played out almost exactly as I had wanted. Eddie, while discovering more than friendly feelings and a powerful physical attraction, denies that he could possibly be having those feelings at all. A great deal of angst and hurt follows due to Eddie's confusion, but in the end he comes to his senses with a very satisfying HEA for 2 of our favorite Scanguards bachelors.

We get to know Thomas a bit better through flashback type scenes, so we have a little more insight to both Thomas and the secret he's kept. Thomas has more than his playroom hidden away.

One of our formerly featured couples (know this a spoiler,but I'm not going as far as naming names ) finally has a long awaited and totally unexpected addition to their family , thanks to another beloved character's selfless thinking during a tragedy. Sewing up some loose ends and unsatisfactory features of other books in the series, another of our favorite couples decide on a more permanent relationship and the treatment of Oliver and the poor attitude his friends had toward him in his book is acknowledged. As a final almost spoiler, there are some moments that were definitely darker than you might expect if you have read the previous books in the series (both including well described violence toward pregnant women and their infants) , however, they are brief and in no way gratuitous. I do, however, feel they merit mention. They can be skipped without an impact on the story. Knowing said violence occurred is enough.

There is more mention of events and characters from previous books in the series than in the other books, so while this book can certainly be read as a stand-alone, a read through of previous books could be helpful in understanding the identity and motivations of certain characters who make an appearance.

Overall, this was a perfect addition to the Scanguards Vampires series. Ms. Folsom didn't shy away from details in the sex scenes as so many authors do when adding M/M couples to their M/F series, nor did she dismiss the emotional turmoil caused by one of the men being in denial and then wishing to stay closeted, despite being in a relationship. This couple was given the same attention to detail as all the other Scanguards couples. Well done!

If you enjoyed the other Scanguards Vampires, you'll enjoy this one, too.

Interesting Read!!

Ok, so how to review this book? Let's see what I can come up with here. First I want to start by saying that I love Tina Folsom and I love the Scanguards series. I was very weary when this book came out because it is m/m as this is Thomas and Eddie's story. I may be okay with people being gay but that doesn't mean that I am going to watch gay porn either... So I really struggled with wanting to buy this book. I'm not going to sugarcoat it, there is A LOT of m/m action in this book that is very detailed. It is not glossed over and well if you were to skim over it you would miss about 65% of the book.

So, if you can get past all that the book is amazing! As I stated this is Thomas and Eddie's story and it is a powerful one. Both Thomas and Eddie come with a passenger car full of luggage, but can they get past that ... oh and the fact that Eddie is "straight" to make things work?

We are visited by a popular villain from a previous book, seems he didn't quite die, like everyone thought! Now he is wreaking havoc and creating hell for Thomas and his friends, not to mention the entire city! This villain draws Thomas to him, but can Thomas fight off the evil within him to make the right choice?

I don't want to give away spoilers, but there are some pretty amazing events for some of our favorite couples from previous books as well. The best one is for Yvette and Haven!! Then again Oliver has a pretty big surprise for everyone as well!

Overall, this book does not disappoint, and I am glad that I got it. I love the series and this book continues the story line rather well. As usual all the characters, plots and themes are well thought out and written. The suspense keeps you flipping pages, hungry to know what happens next! There are so many avenues for this story to go, I can't wait to see where the author takes us next!!

This book has it all-good history, romance, suspense and enjoyable to read

I thought the book had it all-suspense, romance, and history. I learned a lot about Armenian genocide but I also felt victims of other genocides could relate to this story.

The novel starts in 1990 with Orhan's grandfather, Kemal’s, death in 1990. Orhan learns that his grandfather has left the family house to some unknown older woman who is living in a nursing home in California. Orhan goes to California to meet this woman and to buy the family house back from her.

The woman then tell Orhan the story about his grandfather and his relationship with her family which was Armenian and living in Turkey. The story goes back to 1914 when Kemal was a teenager and was working for this Armenian family who falls victim to the Armenian genocide in Turkey.

The novel tries very hard not to vilify the Turks (which is hard to do if your family was a victim of genocide). The novel does an excellent job of describing difficulties in relationships among groups that are separated by the three factors of religion, social class and ethnic groups.

I found the novel very easy to read despite its describing a very sad chapter in history. For readers who like romance there is a love story. In short I found this book not only informative but a real page turner.

Do yourself a favor; read this book. It will transform you.

As a First Read winner of "Orhan's Inheritance", I must disclose that I received this particularly wonderful book in exchange for an honest review.

I have been reviewing books from Goodreads for a little over a year, and most of the ones I received have been ones that I have rated well but this one goes way over the top. If I could have given it more than five stars I would have. This kind of book doesn't come around as often as it should. The storyline; compelling, the characters;masterpieces, the history; fascinating and the language; pure poetry. Congratulations, Aline, for creating such an outstanding book for all to read. And a first novel at that! There will be a lot of us waiting for your next story.

This book starts out with some amazing quotes and I love quotes. I attach them to many of the photographs I take and so, early on in the story, I started jotting down all the quotes that I was particularly interested in and by the end of the book, I had filled the entire inside of the cover jacket with quotes. Of course, it didn't hurt any that the very first paragraph has the reader saying, "What the heck...?", which sends us off into a world that few people really know about and a journey into the mind and soul of a people who are in a world quite different from ours. Yet...the language suggests that we can all be influenced by the Turkish proverbs that abound in Aline's novel.

In so many ways this novel touched my own photographic soul. Art is an integral component of all of our cultures. Humans strive to tell stories, whether it is in the form of petroglyphs, oral storytelling, paintings, textiles, architecture, sculpture, motion pictures or words in books. Art is always under attack in some form or another. Orhan was incarcerated for his art which was seen as a form of rebellion. He put his art "away" and in the end brought it back out into the light to tell the story of his people. Ohanesian's book is just that; a work of art in the form of words that tells the story of her people. I am so glad to have been a winner of this important novel.

Beautifully crafted story, start to finish!

An amazing story full of beautifully crafted characters in a truly universal theme-love, loss and survival during a time of political unrest and incredible hardship. The author writes with such emotion and grace. Her imagery and symbolism ring true for all human beings. I simply couldn't put this book down!!

Beneficial reading for students in various disciplines

Birch and Cobb's The Liberation of Life is a curious cross disciplinary text which reflects the disparate academic backgrounds of its authors. Charles Birch is a biologist while John B Cobb is a theologian (of the "process" variety).

This book had a profound impact on me when I was a student, and I continue to feel its impact years later. In a few (fairly obvious) ways it is an almost inevitable successor to A N Whitehead's Process and Reality (1929), but it benefits greatly from a firm grounding in empirical biological science.

Where this book departs from hard science is in trying to develop a social ethic, albeit a rationally-based one, through an emphasis on cultural inheritance (as well as genetic inheritance). It also places humankind and human behavior firmly within the context of nature's ecology as a whole, and through identifying humans as now having agency in their own evolutionary trajectory.

The authors are concerned for human "aliveness", and they see this as correlated with two specific phenomena: "how rich is the world to which one is attuned and how fresh is the response of feeling, thought and action to that world." The issue, then, is how best human beings can live in the world.

No doubt many positivists will be alarmed by the continual references to biblically-based traditions of "being and living," while some of a more religious persuasion may equally be concerned by the reframing of the ultimate creative force as "Life" (rather than as a more conventionally religious god concept). Moreover, it is stated that God's own life (in a consequent sense) "depends on there being some world to include."

Since this book was first published in 1981, some of the issues it addresses have become more pressing, and the chapter on A Just and Sustainable World makes very difficult (and possibly unpalatable) reading, given the ecological realities with which, most of us now accept, our world is faced. Indeed, Birch and Cobb anticipate an almost inescapable ecocatastrophe resulting from their observation that the "human race has joined forces with entropy against life." The only way to avoid this looming catastrophe, they argue, is to cooperate with our environment to enable a "smooth transition" to a new way of living which is just and sustainable.

This is an extremely thought-provoking book, and while it may be open to challenge from a variety of perspectives, it is one that would greatly benefit many students, whether they are involved in the natural sciences, the social sciences or the arts and humanities.

Just the Basics Nothing Special

This was a required book for my class and ended up being about $35 cheaper then through the college. The book goes over the basics and for the most part, if you have good common sense you wont really need to read the chapter to answer the questions. Over all its a book that has questions in it, and in my opinion a waste of money for me...

I didn't enjoy this book at all. I haven't met a book I didn't like in all of my life, but this one just took all of my life force and pulled it out of me. The experience was painful.
If you are a professor don't subject your students to torture. Choose something else.

This book in it's fourth edition is better suited as a historical look at architectural drawings. It is strongly lacking in CAD production standards; some of the other standards and terminologies mentioned are outdated and do not reflect a concensus of how we professionals practice; a lot of the graphics used are poor quality and are difficult to read.
