Good information, terribly written

First, this book is tiny. Only 77 pages, including 10 for the glossary. And those pages are only about 5.25 x 7.75 inches. Use Amazon's Look Inside feature to get a feel for the wide spacing on those pages. I've had larger user manuals.

Second, the writing and presentation are so bad that they are a huge distraction. The first word of the book is misspelled. The first illustration is a grainy screenshot with arrows childishly drawn in. It's hard to find a page not marked with typos and grammar that is awkward at best.

Third, the book is partly a promotion tool for the author's web site. There are repeated references to what the author can do to help startup stations, and some discussion of fees.

But down deep, there are signs of an author who might really know how this really works. He lays out what pieces are necessary for a satellite TV station as well as alternatives in cable, over-the-air, and internet broadcasting. He also includes ballpark price estimates for each of these pieces. And he even adds bits of wisdom, such as choosing a satellite that already has direct-to-home viewers so your new station will have a larger initial potential audience.

For the quality of presentation, this book is terribly overpriced. But if that information is worth the money to you, it's available. Just be sure to use Look Inside so you'll know what you're getting.

The only choice

If you take into account that this book is the only choice about this matter out there, then is not so bad, (that's why I gave a 3 star rating).
The language of the book is adequate for non-technical people, which is good, but the transmission processes are note really clear and is missing some good schematics about the process and equipment needed for broadcasting. The whole book seems like a brochure promoting the company and the website of the author, you will find a lot of "for more information visit my website", perhaps that's why the explanations aren't very clear and leave a lot of loose ends, it looked to me more as a promotional magazine that a serious book. But as I said in the beginning, this is the only book I founded about this matter.

Despite the grammatical errors this book gave me exactly what I was looking for. INFORMATION. I wanted to know the costs involved in starting such a project. Satellite TV is still a growing opportunity arround the world and this book really gave me the answers I wanted. If you are looking for something that is to that is going to give you the information you want then this is the book for you. If you are looking for a grammatical masterpiece look somewhere else.

Read classics, learn Russian

This dual-language book features twelve shortstories by 19th-century masters of Russian literature. The pages are specially formatted with Russian Cyrillic on the left opposed by English translation on the right. The Russian and English texts match eachother nearly line-for-line, simplifying cross-reference. Here is an entertaining way to enrich vocabulary and perfect syntax, for the intermediate to advanced student who already has the basics of grammar. The editor chose some great examples of Russian writing, including Pushkin's haunting "Stationmaster", Gogol's grotesque "Nose", and Dostoevski's macabre graveyard drama "Bobok". Only one thing detracts from the book's usefulness as a learning tool, which is that many of the phrases and expressions are somewhat archaic. There are several dual-language compilations of contemporary (Soviet) shortstories available, for those who prefer to familiarize themselves with more modern language usage.

Duel language books provide a gift of reading for Russian friends

This book is a wonderful rare find. I am a friend/neighbor of highly educated recent Russian immigrants with limited expertise in English. Although they are taking English classes, it is almost impossible for them to find interesting books to read in English beyond those of a childrens book reading level. Having to use a Russian/English dictionary while reading eliminates a lot of the simple pleasures that reading provides. This book's dual language format is absolutely perfect. They can finally enjoy a book written in English that reflects their reading interests due to the fact that the exact Russian version resides on the opposing page. This dual language format is also an absolutely perfect tool for English students learning the Russian language. It gave me so much pleasure to provide them with this opportunity to both practice and better enjoy reading books in English. I only wish that there were a lot more books available in this style for my friends to enjoy....

With stories by Tolstoy, Pushkin, Gogol and Chekov this is a great book to help you improve your Russian skills and read the masterworks in the original. It's a great way to check your Russian against the English tranlsation on the opposite page.
The book itself has been around for several years and while it is a bit expensive for what you get used editions are fairly common. My only real criticism is that this is one of the few dual readers available in the US on the Russian language. Hopefully the publishers will remedy this by printing another volume. A real must for Russian language students.

Risky but worth it!

After reading through every story, glued to the page the whole time, I have to say I'm thoroughly impressed. This author really shows her stuff in these stories. You can tell she enjoys writing it as much as we enjoy reading it, which is something I always love to find in my erotica authors.
I've picked up some other Nightside stories. A lot of them are about mind control and such. These don't have that. They do have some light bdsm elements which I think add nice flavor. There's also unprotected relations and so forth. It's all very hot and I think well worth the time of anybody looking for a good bundle or two. I think altogether these stories are as long as a novel, so it'll last you a while (unless you read as fast as me lol)

Great bundle!

I read all three of these in a rush. I think I'll go back to them later on tonight or the next day, but they were all incredibly steamy and erotic. My favorite may have been the first one, but I really liked Annette from the last story with the road trip. The seduced story didn't do as much for me, although I could see how others would love it. I loved the other two so that's still a great bargain for the price. I recommend this author and this series!

Each of these stories, while they have their own plot, share the common theme of two women realizing they're better off serving one man at each other's sides. I find that intense and hot, and a lot of fun to read. If you like that sort of thing, then you'll like this. If you like hot sex scenes or great descriptions, that's here too. Pick it up.

True quality

Although at first look this book may seem overwhelming with lots of mathematical interpretations of quality, however, if you give the book a chance you will realize this book is in fact very basic and extremely easy to follow. Statistics may be intimidating to a person of any profession (engineer, general business or even managers) but the book really takes you from step one and gives a broad understanding of quality. The author of this book tries to offer the mathematical tools to people to improve their understanding of quality. The book also does a fabulous job of talking you through the history of quality(the gurus of quality and their systems) to the new quality processes, such as ISO and Six Sigma. Once I completed this book I understand the reasoning for having the mathematics as such a large part. How can one analyze quality without a statistical background? This book not only breaks things down very simply for a person but also gives a full understanding as to why each topic covered is essential to learning proper quality management. I truly hope to pursue a career in quality after reading this textbook. It takes very difficult topics to grasp (which are essential to todays business world) and makes the information understandable and accessible to a beginner as well as a great refresher.

This is a great book. The text is surprisingly easy to read. The information in the book is presented in a manner that gives a great foundation for quality management without overwhelming the reader. The graphs are clear and actually help in understanding the content unlike other textbooks. Don't let the title fool you, the book isn't just for engineers. Any industry/business that is looking to benefit from a better understanding of quality should put this book on the short list for educational texts.

Handbook of clinical child psychology

This is indeed the "Bible" for the clinical child psychologist. As a pediatrician, who through all my professional life have worked closely with child psychologists, permit me to review this very serious and professional handbook. It is edited by C Eugene Walker from Oklahoma and Michael C Roberts from Kansas with 114 contributors (all from United States). The first edition of the handbook was published 18 years ago and it has since turned into a reference and guide for students, adademics and clinicians in the field. The book is divided into seven sections with a total of 55 chapters. The first section deals with child development and the first chapter with families and children in history with a focus on American history, but I especially liked the chapter by Judith A Chafel and Kathryn Gold Hadley on poverty and well-being of children and their families. This is a new addition to this edition, but a very important one. Poverty and hunger are old phenomena, but only recently become a subject of research and interest to politicians. They should be interested, because poverty is a major public health problem in many developed countries. Data from 1996 in the United States estimate that 20.5% of the children were living in poverty. This well researched paper will give you information on definition of poverty, effects on development, health and psychosocial risks, resiliency and implications for clinical intervention. Section two provides different diagnostic assessments of children and adolescents, section three deals with problems of early life and clinical problems of birth, neonatology, infant and preschool period and section four about problems of childhood. This last section has 16 chapters with some interesting entries. I especially liked the chapter on mental retardation, which takes into account the 1992 American Association on Mental Retardation (AMMR) definition of mental retardation, where not only IQ, but multidimential classification was used as a novel way to look upon mental retardation. I would have liked an entry on the use of the word "mental retardation", which is very much debated (sometimes very hotly like at the last international conference in Seattle in August 2000) and at all not in use in many parts of the world, where instead the term "intellectual disability" is preferred. Section five has nine relevant chapters on adolescence, but I would like to see a chapter on teenage pregnancy in the next edition, because that is especially a problem in United States and United Kingdom, where we are talking about potential psychological risks for the next generation also. Section six conveys intervention strategies with good chapters on hospitalization and pharmacotherapy among others. The last section has special topics like cultural issues, divorce, grief, ethics and forensic evaluation. The chapter on impact of a parent chronic illness is very interesting and I would also suggest a chapter on chronic illness or disability in the child for the next edition. This topic is mentioned in another chapter (on contemporary issues), but deserves a full chapter. The words disability and intellectual disability are not mentioned even in the index. In this section I especially like the chapter on child maltreatment by Barbara L Bonner and collegues, which is a good review of the field of child abuse and neglect, but again the focus in on the United States and international work in the field not mentioned. A chapter on research in child psychology and the use of internet should be added for the next edition. The effects of the internet on children and adolescents should also be added. We recently had a case here in Israel, where an internet connection between two adolescents (a Jewish male and Arab female) were used by terrorists to capture and murder the 14 year old boy. I would have liked to see a section eight with chapters on the future of infancy, childhood and adolescence both in the United States, but also a chapter on international work and research in the field of child psychology. All in all a very positive review for a very useful handbook that can be used by both psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers and physicians and thanks for a good editing job. It was a pleasure to read and use this handbook.

Is it worth it?

The strength of the book is that it summarizes the main issues on assessment and treatment quite well. Certainly worthwhile for a quick reference to current opinion on topics but if you're after the finer detail of theory this may not be your book and you might want to try "Child Psychopathology" by Mash & Barkley. The question to ask is, is this book worth $170USD new? If you don't mind spending this money then the book is a useful addition to a professional library for advanced students and professionals.

Highly recommended for pediatric clinical workers.

I am writing about the 3rd edition, which is the most current volume. The only disappointment that I have about this text is that I did not obtain it much earlier. The chapters are well written with many references for further study. The practitioner can keep abreast of the current literature on topics that s/he may already be familiar, or obtain authoritive information about other clinical areas not part of one's regular practice. This text is not written in the style of a dictionary, that is, the reader is given a summary in the style and length of a journal article. The book compliments the older volumes of the American Handbook of Psychiatry for which I have still found much use.
I also give strong recommendation for the Social Worker's Desk Reference that is available on Amazon. This latter book is a 2002 text that for some disorders gives a better summary than the Handbook. The Desk Reference is of value regardless of one's clinical license.

This is a good book, especially the topics are well selected

This is a good book,especially the topics are well selected. The only thing wrong with this book ,are the answers for the MCQ's at the back,where you find many mistakes. Needs editing. Other than that no complaints. I strongly recommend for each and everyone appearing for the FRCS exam.
